Oscars 2010 Part 1

Let's get started, shall we?

Amanda Seyfried in Armani Privé Spring 2010 Couture

Volume was big on the red carpet this year. Unfortunately, some of the dresses took that a bit far but thankfully, Amanda's falls right in line with what we would consider an acceptable amount. We love the icy blue, which goes very well with her coloring.

Carey Mulligan in Prada Pre-Fall 2010 [modified]

This look got slammed a little bit, and while we would have advised her to reconsider both the shoes and the earrings, the dress is fine.

Demi Moore in Atelier Versace Spring 2008 Couture

It's a beautiful dress and when we first saw it, we commented on the lovely color, but seeing the original, we wish she'd had the nerve to wear that bright orange instead of this taupe-y peach. Hair, makeup and accessories are all flawless.

Gabourey Sidibe in Marchesa

The best of her choices this awards season. It's a lovely color, it flatters her, and the detailing on the front is pretty.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten Fall 2010 [modified]

Did not love. Actually, that's not quite true. What we mean to say is, did not love for the Oscars. We applaud the idea of the print and the willingness to skip all the volume, but it just doesn't feel like an Oscars dress. It's more like something you'd wear to a very sophisticated pool-side party.

Mo'nique in Tadashi Shoji Spring 2010

It's a pretty color and it flatters her, but it felt like a very safe choice.

Penelope Cruz in Donna Karan

Gorgeous color. We're going to get sick of all the twisted, origami bodices over voluminous skirts before this is all over, though.

Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab Spring 2010 Couture

We really loved this one. Again, we applaud the print because for some reason, prints seem to terrify actresses. What we love about this one is the subtlety of it and the fact that it matches her coloring perfectly. We go back and forth on the earrings. Too much? You make the call.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa Fall 2010

It's a gorgeous dress that practically screams "I'm here to pick up my Oscar," but it's a little disappointingly safe. We were kind of hoping she'd wear another McQueen. And while she is obviously justifiably proud of her fantastic hair, we couldn't help wondering how she would have looked with an updo. One thing's for sure: that lip color was ALL WRONG.

Tina Fey in Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2010

It's cute, which is about as much as we can expect from her. She just doesn't do glamour well and she clearly has an aversion to wearing anything but black. Frankly, we think it would have looked a lot better without the titscrepancy. Either two straps or no straps, honey.

Vera Farmiga in Marchesa

The other trend on the red carpet this year was color and thank god for that. This one really stood out. We think the ruffles could have been toned down quite a bit, though. To drag out a somewhat tired old phrase, the dress is wearing her.
